The Westfield Matildas have won Australia's second Asian title in recent weeks by winning the ASEAN Football Federation Women's Championships in Ho Chi Minh City. The Matildas defeated hosts Vietnam 1-0 thanks to an 80th minute own-goal scored from a corner. Australian coach Tom Sermanni was delighted with the result and believed his side earned the right to be crowned champions. "I thought we were well in control for most of the game," he said. "But all credit to the Vietnam team. They had numbers behind the ball, defended well and were lively on the counter attack. "Despite the tactics of the opposition, I was pleased with the way we kept our shape and our cool. "We're delighted to have the win in what is an important regional tournament!" It's a perfect time for the win because it coincides with the commencement of the Westfield W-League this weekend. Just ten days ago, the Qantas Young Socceroos won the U19 Championship giving the Aussies two titles in less than two weeks.
