Fabio Capello is facing a backlash over the manner in which whittled down his 30-man England squad over the weekend.
And the England boss didn't even send the texts himself - he instructed a female member of the FA's clerical staff to pass on the bad news.
An England spokesman said: "This is standard procedure for all players left out of the squad."
Seven players were ditched from the original squad for Wednesday's friendly in France.
And at least two clubs are so incensed by the way the situation was handled they plan to raise it with the FA.
