Chelsea to use Carling Cup for fast tracking youngsters

Chelsea plan to snub the Carling Cup after their shock transfer ban, reports the Daily Mail. Chelsea will now use the competition to use some of their younger players to relieve the pressure on the first-team squad, with no new recruits allowed to join for almost two years.

Chelsea face west London rivals QPR in the third round on September 23 but coach Ray Wilkins admits they will rest key players for the derby at Stamford Bridge.

"The Carling Cup is big for us, but I think this year, for one of the first times, we will use some of the younger players in the club," he said.

"Hopefully we will get a full house against QPR and if some of the young players can force their way in, then all well and good."
