Chelsea's David Luiz has acknowledged that Atletico Madrid are a top football side.
Los Rojiblancos defeated the Blues 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday night and it was a performance which impressed Luiz even though he was on the wrong end of the result.
"They scored when they needed to score," Luiz said of Diego Simeone's side.
"We controlled the game for the first 40 minutes and then we conceded a goal at the end of the first-half and they were able to counter attack and they dictated the game.
"In the second half, they scored the second goal and then we headed the ball against the post. If it is 2-2, it is a different game and we are back in it but then they scored the third goal and that is it.
"They have a a fantastic philosophy and a very good team. We gave it our best but it was not enough; that is football."
Fernando Torres scored first for Chelsea in the 36th minute before Adrian Lopez levelled just before half-time. Diego Costa edged Atleti ahead from the penalty spot on the hour-mark prior to Arda Turan's strike in the 72nd minute which wrapped up proceedings.
