Chelsea manager Pochettino offers hope to academy kids: We need to energise them

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino admits he is happy to integrate youth players into his squad.

The Argentine is aware that his side spends a lot of resources on bolstering their youth setup.

While many of these players are sold, Pochettino hopes that a few will be able to become first team stalwarts.

Speaking with reporters, he said: "I know very well from Southampton and Tottenham that their record was amazing. I hope we can change this feeling for the fans in the future. It can be a philosophy of the club.

"I think always the record was fantastic and we again need to reinforce and energise the academy. First, because we believe in them and then because Chelsea was famous for bringing good players from the academy to first team.

"Today, I was asking … 'If you are involved, what do you think?' And their eyes [go] like this. Because they are 16, 17 … to have the possibility to be at Stamford Bridge in an official competition with the first-team. It's an exciting moment for them and the families. I know what it means.

"But it's good. It's fantastic for us also to feel that energy … the young guys for the first time came with us yesterday and today, training with the first team and you can see the happiness."
