Chelsea manager Pochettino: I need more time to consider Slonina, Santos

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has given his verdict on a back up goalkeeper.

The Argentine was asked about the quality of Gabriel Slonina, who has come in from Chicago Fire in the MLS.

Pochettino is eager to recruit a new keeper, but is also satisfied with the group of shot stoppers in his squad at present.

He told reporters of Slonina: “I think he is a young player that came from Chicago, of course I need to see more because he met us here on the tour, similar to Lesley.

“We need more time to discover how they are and of course, if the club sign it's because they believe in him and that he is a great talent and we need to decide if it is better to continue with us or what is the best way for him to grow and be one of the greatest keepers in the world.“

He also touched on whether midfielder Andrey Santos will be in the first team squad this term, stating: “All of the young guys, like Andrey or Angelo, also Lesley, Casadei, all young guys, we are going to decide when we arrive in London.

“No-one we can say is going to be in the squad, but noone we can say is not going to be in the squad.

“When we finish the tour, we are going to sit, we are already working with the sporting directors, with Paul and Laurence, sharing ideas and we can see how we define the squad. They have the possibility, maybe they go on loan, at the moment, nothing is closed."
