Chelsea, Man Utd consider going for Augsburg fullback Philipp Max

Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head for Augsburg fullback Philipp Max.

The Daily Mail says Chelsea and United scouts were posted for Augsburg's clash with Hertha Berlin on Sunday to watch the left-back.

Both English giants are thin on the left-side of defence, with Marcos Alonso working overtime for the Chelsea and Ashley Young slotting in for United this season.

The news could come as a bitter blow to Luke Shaw, who was hoping his impressive performance in Europe recently may have changed Jose Mourinho's mind about him.

Max, 24, has been a regular for Augsburg this season, having played in all 15 of their Bundesliga fixtures this season.

The German – who helped his nation win silver at the 2016 Olympic Games – was on the books of Bayern Munich as a youth product, between 2007-10, before moving to Schalke.
