Chelsea defender Thiago Silva hopes to act as an "inspiration" for players young and old.

Thiago will turn 38 in September.

"I am happy to be a reference or inspiration for the young people who are now starting to play, and can see and see how far into their lives they can play - until they are 38 or 39 years old," he said.

"I am happy to be able to play at this age and know that it can be an inspiration for others."

The defender penned a new 12 month deal towards the end of last season.
