Galatasaray have booked their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals courtesy of a 4-3 aggregate win over Schalke.
The Turkish side, following the 1-1 draw in Istanbul three weeks ago, managed to edge the German outfit 3-2 in Gelsenkirchen tonight to move through to the final eight of Europa's premier club competition.
Roman Neustadter gave Schake the lead in the 17th minute when he side-footed home from close range after Galatasaray failed to clear from a set piece but the Turks hit back in fine fashion through former Die Knappen midfielder Hamit Altintop.
The German-born Turkey international rifled a dipping effort from more than 25 yards which went in off the post to make it 1-1 in the 37th minute.
Galatasaray then took the lead three minutes prior to the break when Burak Yilmaz netted his eighth goal of the competition by racing onto a long ball and poking over Schalke keeper Timo Hildebrand.
The Germans gave themselves plenty of hope when Michel Bastos rammed home in the 63rd minute after some toing and froing in the goalmouth but as they chased a winning goal, Schalke conceded deep into injury-time when Umut Bulut slotted home after his initial effort was saved by Hildebrand to send the Istanbul giants through to the next phase for the first time in over a decade.
