Celtic's Stokes determined to perform if given Champions League minutes

Celtic forward Anthony Stokes insists he is ready to put his best foot forward in the Champions League this week.

The Bhoys travel to Turin to take on Juventus in the Round of 16 second leg following the 3-0 defeat at home last month and the Irishman is determined to take his chance if it comes after missing the initial fixture with an ankle problem.

"Listen, it would be nice to get some time in the Champions League," he said.

"I was watching it earlier in the season and it was hard to watch when I was out injured. I sat in the house and saw the games on TV.

"The boys went on a great run and I was delighted for the team and club. It was difficult but I've been in a similar situation when I wasn't injured and wasn't playing.

"I've just had to take it on the chin and during my rehab it just spurred me on if anything. I wanted to come back stronger.

"I'd been lucky enough throughout my career not to be injured.

"That was the first major one I've had and it came at a bad time with the big games.

"But it's just given me more desire to get back in the team and to work as hard as I can. When you're playing at a club like this you always want to perform.

"I treat every game the same, I don't try harder in certain games or just because my contract's running out in a couple of months.

"I just play my normal game and that's what I've been doing since I've come back."
