Andy Carroll has no problem battling for his place at Newcastle United.

Carroll is Newcastle's top scorer on four, but has Shola Ameobi breathing down his neck with three strikes after his double at Chelsea.

Carroll told the Evening Chronicle: "There are a lot more faces here now, but only 11 players can play.

"I welcome the competition, it makes training more exciting too.

"You just have to work hard and keep your head down to keep your place in the team."
