Carroll can force way into England squad ahead of Euro 2016 says West Ham boss Bilic

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic believes Andy Carroll can still resurrect his England career.

The 26-year-old centre-forward has battled to stay on the pitch since arriving in East London from Liverpool in the summer of 2013 but after overcoming heel, ankle and knee injuries, is ready to get things back on track.

Carroll managed a start in West Ham's recent Capital One Cup loss to Leicester City and according to Bilic, can now put together a string of appearances before setting his sights on the European Championships in France next summer.

"The England squad will come as a logical result if things are cured," Bilic said.

"First of all he has to stay away from injuries. Only with that can he be in a position to have a great season.

"In the past it has not been because he dropped in form, it's because he was injured. Step number one, he has made it, he has had a good pre-season, even it was after the season already started, he is now fit.

"The quality was never in doubt, the problem was fitness and without that you can't have form."
