Carr backing Howe to stay with Newcastle

Former Newcastle fullback Stephen Carr says manager Eddie Howe should remain in charge.

Carr feels Newcastle struggled this season due to Financial Fair Play issus.

"I think Eddie Howe overachieved last season and unfortunately, when you've overachieved, fans get that buzz. Especially when you have the wealthiest owners in world football," said Carr, speaking to BoyleSports. "I think they're realising now that's irrelevant because you got Financial Fair Play and his hands are going to be tied.

"Getting in the Champions League so soon was just a bonus and Howe has still done an unbelievable job when you look at the injuries which have hurt them. I think he's a very, very good manager and you have to be patient - but fans only have patience for so long.

"It would be good to get a European spot and let things settle a bit because the owners came in and had such money behind them. Howe deserves more time for what he did last season."
