Carney eyeing Blackpool debut

Blackpool recruit David Carney is hoping he is given a debut for his new club this weekend.

The 26-year old signed with the Seasiders on the final day of the transfer window and is looking forward to a potential opportunity against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Saturday.

"It's something I'm really looking forward to, as a footballer you can't wait to get out there and play and to play against the likes of Newcastle is what you want," he told Blackpool's official website.

"I've come back from playing against a lot of really good players at the World Cup and you get that buzz and feeling and you want to do it every week and now I can."

Carney joined Blackpool from Dutch club FC Twente, who he helped win the Eredivisie title last term, and ahead of his first training session was very excited about the move.

"I went to Holland because of that and to come here and play that way, just to play a fast game on the ground will suit me, so I'm just looking forward to working and hopefully playing well," he added.

"I've heard they're a great bunch of lads, great to work with and a great team spirit so that's what you want to hear and I look forward to meeting them."
