Campbell exclusive: Arsenal hero convinced Nketiah and Balogun have big role to play in Gunners future

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell is convinced Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun both have long-term futures with the club.

Like the young pair, First Division title winner Campbell came through the Hale End youth system at Arsenal and believes both players can help the club recapture it's former glory.

Speaking to Tribalfootball.com on behalf of Mr Gamble, Campbell said of Nketiah: "I think that is what Mikel Arteta is hoping will happen.

"You don't sign Eddie Nketiah up to a new deal if you don't think he's going to have a part to play in all of this.

"And fair play to Nketiah because he's signed it and come back a different player.

"He looks a lot stronger, and he's trusted a lot more to come on for Gabriel Jesus when needed.

"I would say he's changed quite a few games from the bench as well which is obviously what you want to see from players in the squad."

While Nketiah has taken his game up a level this season, Balogun is setting goalscoring records in France with loan club Reims.

Campbell continued: "Balogun has gone out on loan and he's shining which is what you need in your development.

"He's doing very well in France, and you want the youngsters to come back to challenge players in the first team.

"I do think they both have a part to play, but how big a part now or in a year's time, then I'm not sure.

"But ultimately over the next three or four years you would expect these guys to only get better.

"So, when the time comes that you flip the switch and throw these guys in, then you won't hesitate to do so.

"They've got to keep developing, keep getting better and then they will get their chance to play their part."
