Burnley's American owner Alan Pace says he can understand the Super League model.

However, he insists his fellow owners knew what they were signing up for when buying their respective clubs.

"I understand the business model behind a closed store. The understanding of not having promotion or relegation, but there is something that has drawn the rest of the world to this league (Premier League) and to this special mood that is different," says Pace.

"I can understand the operational and the economy that is in it. But you have to look back and consider why you chose to get involved in this league. Why did you choose to become part of the sport?

"You did it because there is something very, very special, and it is the fans who create the passion. You can not destroy that part. You can not tear the heart out of the body and expect the body to live on."
