Burnley midfielder Cork: My bags were packed for Dubai before England call-up

Burnley star Jack Cork has stated that he had already planned to leave for a holiday in Dubai before getting a call-up to the England national team.

Following numerous withdrawals from the England squad ahead of the friendlies against Germany and Brazil, Cork was called up by manager Gareth Southgate and the Burnley midfielder has now revealed that the inclusion into the Three Lions side was so unexpected that he had already booked a holiday for the international break.

Cork said: "I was about to go on holiday with the wife and kids when the gaffer called me and said 'do you want to come? I was going to Dubai with them – but they are over there now. They've taken my mum over to help with the kids.

"I told them to go because I didn't think I'd feature on Friday, I thought there'd be more chance against Brazil and I'd maybe get on there.

"There were other family there at Wembley, so there will be pictures. I'm sure my mum will be buzzing, she would have had a couple of drinks because she'd be nervous. They'll be happy."
