Burnley manager Dyche: Barnes showed great character for penalty

Burnley manager Sean Dyche praised Ashley Barnes after he converted a penalty for their 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Barnes - who was booked for diving in the first half when felt he should have had a spot-kick - struck to earn Burnley the point.

“I must mention the mentality of Ashley, to remain calm and focused," said Dyche.

“To have been not given that penalty and then being booked for simulation is incredible.

“So to then get a last minute penalty after seeing so many chances stay out, and slot it home, was fantastic for him and I thought we deserved more than a draw today.

“We kept knocking on the door and had some golden chances.

“We've had some hard knocks, recently, that have cost us and we would all have gone home very aggrieved had that cost us."
