Brighton chief Barber vows to keep jobs and wages for as long as possible

Brighton and Hove Albion chief executive Paul Barber says that his club will do what it can to protect jobs and wages.

Like all clubs in England, Brighton are hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.

No games means no matchday or television revenue, which clubs count on to pay salaries to players and staff.

Barber hopes they can continue without layoffs or wage deferments, but says things can change.

He told BBC 5 Live: "If this crisis continues for some time and we don't have matches, of course we have got to look at our cost base just like everyone else.

"It's a very difficult situation when your income disappears overnight but all of your costs remain. We can't rule anything out.

"We have been very honest with our staff, we have been very straightforward with them.

"We are going to try to support them as long as we possibly can and protect their jobs and wages for as long as we can.

"But we have got to monitor this week by week, month by month."
