Boateng tells Germany and Chelsea fans: Werner will be bigger, stronger and more arrogant

Former Tottenham striker Kevin-Prince Boateng insists Timo Werner will be a better player for a tough first season with Chelsea.

Werner finished the campaign a Champions League winner, though had an inconsistent first 12 months in England.

Boateng told BILD via Fussball Transfers: "Timo has changed country, club, playing in a new league. It is not so easy. Nonetheless, he scored his goals, provided assists, was present, went through a hollow and came out and now he's the Champions League winner."

Indeed, Boateng argues for everything Werner confronted, the striker will be stronger for the experience and his mental strength will have gone to a new level. He and Chelsea ended the campaign as kings of Europe after winning the Champions League final against Manchester City.

Boateng continued: "For me it has been a positive season with the usual ups and downs. It makes him bigger and stronger and he learns from it. At the Euro we will see another Timo Werner, a hungry Timo. A Timo with more arrogance, because he has just won the Champions League.

"It carries you. He will show who he really is."

Despite criticism some quarters, Werner's season stats remain competitive, with manager Thomas Tuchel insisting the striker is a key part of his system. In 52 games, Werner scored 12 goals and produced 15 assists. He has a deal to 2025.

And on the road to Porto and European glory, the 25 year-old Werner enjoyed a major influence on Chelsea's run, scoring four goals in 12 appearances and also producing two assists.
