Bimbo Bakeries back Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia Union have extended their shirt sponsorship agreement with Bimbo Bakeries for a further five years, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. Pennsylvania-based Bimbo, which has appeared on the team's shirts since 2011, will pay a total of US$11 million over the deal's five-year term, according to a report in the Philadelphia Business Journal that cited 'outside sources'.

Bimbo is the US offshoot of Mexico's Grupo Bimbo and operates more than 60 bakeries in the USA under a number of brands.

"We are very excited to extend our agreement with Bimbo Bakeries USA," said Philadelphia Union chief executive and operating partner Nick Sakiewicz.

"The relationship we have forged between our two organisations the past four years has produced so much value at many different levels.

"Our extremely successful relationship has allowed both of our brands, as well as the game of soccer, to grow exponentially in the marketplace and we are looking forward to taking it even to higher levels with new programs in the years to come."

The Union are one of eight professional soccer teams sponsored by Bimbo, alongside Mexican sides Chivas Guadalajara, Monterrey and Club America, Costa Rica's Saprissa, El Salvador's Isidro Metapan, Panama's San Francisco, and Rochester Rhinos of the USA's United Soccer League (USL).
