Besiktas reluctant to cough up for on-loan West Ham defender Masuaku

Besiktas are reluctant to cough up for on-loan West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku.

With two assists in 12 league games so far this term, Masuaku is in a Besiktas squad that includes former Tottenham Hotspur trio Dele Alli, Gedson Fernandes and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, although a poor run of form has seen them drop to eighth ahead of the World Cup break.

Having been a regular this season, reports in Turkey are claiming that should Masuaku's appearances for the season climb to 25 or higher, Besiktas would be entitled to sign him permanently on a three-year deal.

Besiktas would be obliged to pay a fee of €2.2 million (£2 million) to take him permanently, with his contract at the London Stadium due to expire in 2024.

However, that clause reportedly has Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes planning to replace Masuaku in the January window to avoid having to sign him permanently.
