Manchester United face competition from Real Madrid for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.Super Deporte says United are keen on the Argentina international, though unhappy with Valencia's €50 million valuation.

United are staying in contact with Valencia president Amedao Salva, urging him to drop his asking price.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are ready to compete, with new coach Rafa Benitez having Otamendi high on his shopping list.

French agent Francois Gallardo revealed: "Otamendi has been declared in play and has told the club he wants to go. We can say he is one of the four best in the world and the team that signs him will be happy.

"Benitez has asked for him. His (Benitez's) arrival has changed situation of several different players."
