Benitez emerges as desired choice for Everton with offer extended

Rafa Benitez is close to being appointed as the new manager of Everton.

The Spaniard has been out of work since leaving Chinese side Dalian Yifang in January.

Everton had also been in talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo over becoming Carlo Ancelotti's successor.

However, Sky Sports has revealed that Benitez is the club's number one choice and has been offered the job.

Benitez last managed in the Premier League with Newcastle United two years ago.

He had previously coached Everton's local rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.
