Newcastle United have announced they will spend preseason in China.
The Mirror says the club has signed to play in the money-spinning Premier League Asia Trophy pre-season tournament in China.
Rafa Benitez traditionally prefers to keep preparations for a new campaign low-key, with a week-long training break in Ireland. But with the Spaniard unwilling to give an immediate firm commitment he will be in charge beyond his current contract expiring in a few months' time, Magpies bosses are pressing ahead with more lucrative plans.
Newcastle have been severely criticised by their fans in recent years for not maximising their commercial revenues and falling behind rivals in that area. This Far East jaunt - a biannual event for the top-flight sides involved - is seen as a chance to expand their brand in new markets.
They will line up with Manchester City, Wolves and West Ham for games in two Chinese cities.
