Beattie: No escape clause if Stoke relegated

James Beattie has revealed there is no release clause in his Stoke contract should the club be relegated from the Premier League. "There's no release clause in my contract," the 30 year told the Stoke Sentinel.

"Everyone knows it won't be easy. It is going to be a fight. I knew it would be before I came, but I will be giving everything I have got to make sure this club is a Premier League club next year.

"Part of my decision to come here was that the talent we have in the dressing room is more than enough to stay in this league.

"You have seen the top teams come to the Britannia before I came, and they have been turned over."

"You have seen the top teams come to the Britannia before I came, and they have been turned over," Beattie added.

"But it just shows that, when you have a team like Man City with all those individual stars on the pitch, they need to play as a team.

"On paper, you would say they have much better players than us individually, but we have to play as a team or else we are going to go down.

"As you have seen, the lads do play as a team and that's why we came out on top."
