Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane admitted he struggled to talk about his charity work after receiving the Socrates Trophy at the Ballon d'Or ceremony.
The Bayern Munich and Senegal winger was honored for the charitable causes he supports, particularly in his native country.
Mane has spent money on a public hospital, schools, and other facilities for families in his home village of Bambali.
He said when on stage receiving the award: "Like you said, sometimes I'm a bit shy when it comes to talking about it, but I'm really happy to do what I can for our people and to make things better."
While he did pick up this prestigious honor, Mane missed out on the Ballon d'Or award, despite having a terrific season individually and with his club and national side.
Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema won the award, considering his La Liga and Champions League double success.
