Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso believes Spanish football is in trouble.
With a round of the group stage still to go, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Barcelona have all failed to reach the round of 16.
Xabi said: "Rating for one season is not fair, the growth of other countries is very important and sometimes we focus a lot on Spain but abroad they are doing things very well.
"You see other teams that we play every week and they have a great level. The quality of Spanish football is unquestionable, it is viewed with admiration.
"This year, the fact that only one out of four has passed denotes that something has gone wrong, but I don't get involved, I have enough with mine."
