Barcelona striker Lewandowski: I should be a Ballon d'Or winner

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski admits there's frustration missing the Ballon d'Or.

However, the Pole says he has no career regrets.

“I don't regret anything, because I never dreamed of being at this level, nor of winning so many titles or so many goals. 2020 or 2021, those two seasons in which I scored 100 goals in 80 or 90 games, were incredible for me. It was the best period of my life, I was in the best shape of my career," the forward recalled in an interview with the Le Parisien.

An “incredible" run for which the Pole believes he should have won the Ballon d'Or in 2020, an edition which was canceled due to the pandemic.

“I deserved to win it, that's how I feel. If you win everything with the team, if you score so many very important goals, you can think like that. The decision to cancel it in 2020 was a disappointment, but I don't want to think about things that are out of my control," he said.

And one of the keys to the Pole's longevity is that scoring is an “obsession".

“I don't know what percentage that obsession represents today, but it's still there. It's a good drug, because you always want more, you always want to score," he said, although not scoring is now “less frustrating than before".

“Deep down I still have the feeling that goals give me more strength. You can't forget that feeling that you live for goals, that you were born to score goals."
