Barcelona must free up €200M to secure Lionel Messi to a new contract

Barcelona must make major sales this summer to secure Lionel Messi to a new contract.

RAC1 says Barcelona will have to free up €200million in wages if Messi renews his contract.

Messi's current contract expires next week and keeping the Argentina star would force Barcelona to have to sell several players.

Barcelona have been heavily active in the transfer market already this summer, bringing in Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Emerson.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned that for every €100million (£85million) that the club free up, only €25million can be used.

Barcelona will be looking to sell players who aren't in the plans of manager Ronald Koeman, especially those who have high salaries.
