Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has made a short statement after returning to Spain from the World Cup.

Araujo was part of Uruguay's squad which failed to get beyond the group stage. The defender did not make an appearance after being selected as he recovered from a thigh injury.

He said today: "The World Cup dream is over. Sad for not being able to help my colleagues and my country on the pitch.

"I put all power from day one of the injury to be there and help. Very little was missing, but it was not achieved. Thank you and I ask all our Uruguayan people to forgive us.

"We will return and give you many joys. With faith that there is always a rematch."
