Barcelona coach Xavi blasts critics: No matter what I say they kill me

Barcelona coach Xavi insists his resignation has nothing to do with a limited transfer budget.

Xavi will leave the job at the end of the season.

He said: "The wear and tear has nothing to do with the economic situation. I have been a club man and I will be until the end. We have adapted to the circumstances. I think a very good job has been done.

"I have a clear conscience. I have prioritised to the club ahead of myself. You have told me that I have made 200 excuses, and it is the opposite. I have adapted to the circumstances and the difficulties.

"I have done what I have felt. There are many positive things, but one is the opportunity for young people.

"When I have appeared here, I have always said what I thought. If I say that we are under construction, you kill me. If I say that we do not have the Barça of 2010, there is also criticism. Whatever I do, there is criticism.

"They do not buy anything from me. Neither winning LaLiga 14 points behind Real Madrid, nor winning the Super Cup, nor with the team... it is a matter of the environment, the club, demands and my person... and hence my feeling of leaving."
