Barca Atletic coach Marquez slams Mexican football after World Cup elimination

Barca Atletic coach Rafa Marquez has slammed Mexico after their World Cup elimination.

The former captain harshly criticized the national team, calling for a revolution ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

"It is a big blow for Mexican football, to make us realize that we are not what we think we are: we don't have a good organization, we don't have good foundations," Marquez explained on TUDN.

"We have already been overtaken by the United States, Canada has overtaken us without being a major player, so what do we have to do? Start from scratch, pull together and try to develop a plan, because this cannot happen at the next World Cup, where we will be at home."

Finally, the former Barcelona player pointed out that La Tri had not learned the lesson from the 7-0 drubbing against Chile in 2016.

"It was a wake-up call that we had to do something more, and this today is a slap in the face," Marquez continued.

"We have to think about what we have to do to have better Mexican football, to be able to develop better players, to be able to bring more Mexican players to Europe and thus be able to grow as a country in football terms."
