Atletico Madrid coach Simeone happy with victory over Villarreal; talks up Griezmann deal

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was pleased with their 3-1 win against Villarreal.

Axel Witsel, Antoine Griezmann and Samuel Lino scored for Atletico on the day.

Simeone said: "We played against an opponent who is not going through their best moment but who had very good players. In the first half they found the goal, we attacked but without clear situations.

"We played in the rival field against a team that defended itself well and did not let us reach the area. Then came the goal that gave us peace of mind to talk at half-time. We put more people on the outside like Marcos, then the changes gave us freshness.

"That's what it's about, being able to pull the group forward when the team needs it in this type of match."

On Griezmann, he continued: "Comparisons are not good because there are sensitivities when they are made, but since I have been at Atlético I know that Griezmann is going to remain in the history of the club for the goals he has scored and for those he will score. We need him and I hope that after The National Team's matches he returns in the best way."

On Griezmann's contract talks, he added: "The club always works to get the best for the team and Antoine has a present and a future, I hope he will accompany us in the years that we will be at the club."
