Atletico Madrid coach Simeone fumes over Copa date after victory over Rayo: They don't respect the fans

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has hit out at the LaLiga and RFEF after victory over Rayo Vallecano,

Atletico won 2-1 thanks to goals from Memphis Depay and Reinaldo.

Simeone said: "The game was tough, it was already difficult for Real, Rayo didn't let them create. It was similar to us, there were few opportunities, but we didn't have many clear ones because they worked very well.

"We managed a very important game because of the result, because we were able to give many players a rest and others have added minutes."

Atletico meet Real Madrid on Sunday in the Liga before a Copa del Rey semifinal three days later.

Simeone continued, "I interpret it as a fan. They don't respect it. It's not that they don't respect Atlético, but rather the fan because it was already known before playing against Sevilla that it was going to happen and Athletic or Barcelona was going to play on the weekend.

"If such an important semi-final for Spain, the Federation decides that a team has 48 more hours to prepare, it seems unfair to me. One day is understandable, but what is the difference between us playing on Wednesday or Thursday? None.

"They don't want to change it, I consider it a lack of respect for our fans. That does not mean that we win, it does not happen because of that, but because of a question of respect and the Atlético fan wants his players to arrive in the best way. If one team has five days and another three, I get angry."

On Memphis, he added: "Very happy for him, he has been working with great desire and enthusiasm. It is the third game in a row and he has already played 90 minutes. We need him and he is important for us to be in the best shape in 20, 60 or 90 minutes."
