Reports are suggesting that Major League Soccer will soon announce the next expansion franchise.
Philly.com and the Atlanta Journal Constitution are of the belief that Atlanta will win the rights to the 22nd MLS license with an announcement expected for later this week.
It has been suggested that the Atlanta franchise, which will be operated by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, will begin MLS play in 2017 in a new $1billion stadium in downtown Atlanta.
"We are continuing discussions with Arthur Blank to bring a Major League Soccer expansion team to Atlanta; however, we have not finalized an agreement at this time," an MLS official told the AJC in a statement on Sunday.
The Atlanta team is expected to join MLS before David Beckham's proposed Miami expansion which is almost certain to be granted the 23rd MLS license.
