Atalanta are unhappy with Birmingham City's negotiating tactics over Jordan James' deal.
TMW says La Dea had an agreement in place at the beginning of the January window. Atalanta had agreed a fee of €4.5m plus bonuses, with James also settling on terms worth €800,000-a-year.
But things changed after the sacking of Wayne Rooney by Birmingham.
The Blues have now upped their price to €9m - a valuation Atalanta regard as too steep.
Fiorentina have since made an approach - though no offer has been discussed.
