Aston Villa boss Dean Smith was delighted with Jota for victory over Everton last night.
The attacker was outstanding for the 2-0 win.
Smith said, "He showed his quality tonight.
"He and Fred will feel it's a bit harsh that this evening is their first start because they have done so well in pre-season.
"But they have to earn their starts. They have to earn the shirts.
"I didn't think El Ghazi was great against Bournemouth and I spoke to him about that. But he will be pleased he's come off the bench and scored.
"I thought Jota's performance was excellent and what I expected of him.
"He's a wonderful little talent. He has great awareness.
"It was a great ball for Wesley and a great finish."
