Former Newcastle United star Tino Asprilla is backing James Rodriguez for success with Real Madrid.

Asprilla says his fellow Colombian can be proud of his first season at Real.

He told Marca: "He had a great season, during a really tough year in which the club didn't win anything. It was strange. He shone, but the team didn't. He put in more good performances in one year than for example Bale did in two. I don't know if Real Madrid are going to put up with the Welshman for much longer.

"He's at a very complicated club, maybe that's why it's the best club in the world. You never know what's going to happen at Madrid. We're talking about a team that sacked Ancelotti after winning 'la Décima' and now want to kick out a club legend like Iker Casillas. That's why, if James is successful there, it'll be even more impressive."
