Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Arsenal can take great confidence and build momentum for their season after their 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich.

Bayern were heavy favourites going into the match on Tuesday night but Arsenal were able to claim a famous victory over the German champions.

Ferdinand told BT Sport that the victory could kickstart Arsenal's Champions League campaign and give them great confidence for the rest of the season.

Ferdinand said: "I think it was really refreshing and pleasing to see that Arsenal can have a change of style and be successful doing it. That will fill them with unbelievable confidence.

"I think it's a great asset for Arsenal that they have got, and if they identify and understand what they have, they can play now by sitting and holding as blocks. They defended really, really well. This could be a massive thing going forward for them."
