Arsenal on brink of announcing new Aubameyang contract agreement

Arsenal are on the brink of announcing a new contract agreement with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The London Evening Standard says Arsenal are close to tying Aubameyang down to a new contract and hope it could even by wrapped up by the time pre-season begins later this week.

Aubameyang currently has under one year to run on his contract, but Arsenal are ready to give him a new three-year deal worth £250,000-a-week.

The 31-year-old teased fans that an announcement was close on Sunday by posting a tweet with an hourglass emoji.

As they have been since winning the FA Cup, Arsenal are confident a deal can be wrapped up to keep Aubameyang at the club - with the forward given assurances about what manager Mikel Arteta's plans are to get the club challenging for trophies and a top-four finish again.

Arsenal players who competed in the FA Cup final on August 1, which includes Aubameyang, are due back for pre-season later this week and there is hope a deal could be wrapped up by then.

That would present Arteta with the perfect start to pre-season as the key cog of his rebuild would be in place ahead of a vital summer.
