Arsenal defender Saliba says he'll always be grateful to St Etienne

Arsenal defender William Saliba says he'll always be grateful to St Etienne.

Saliba left ASSE two years ago for the Gunners before taking on loan spells in France with Nice and now with Olympique Marseille.

Now called into the France squad for the first time, he said: "Saint-Étienne is my home, I learned everything there. I was at the training centre there, they made me grow and trained me well. I will never forget this club which launched me in Ligue 1 at 17 (September 25, 2018 against Toulouse) with Jean-Louis Gasset.

"When you're young and you don't know adult football and a coach gives you playing time, shows you he has confidence, tells you he's coached a lot of defenders and that you're part of the very best, it's a chance!

"It is thanks to him and all the Saint-Etienne training that I am in front of you today.

"My departure? I helped the club which needed this money but I didn't feel any pressure especially since I didn't play at Arsenal. I was loaned to Saint-Étienne for a season, before going to Nice then Marseille."
