AC Milan star Loftus-Cheek: I had to leave Chelsea to play in best position

AC Milan star Ruben Loftus-Cheek has admitted to finally being free of the shackles put on him by previous coaches.

Loftus-Cheek, who often played in a defensive midfield or full-back role at the Stamford Bridge club, has always stated he wants to play as an attacking midfielder.

Having spent 19 years at the Blues, he left for Milan in the summer to kick start his career at 27 years of age.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I love reading, I like books that give inner peace and freedom."

He added: "At Chelsea I felt like a caged animal, I didn't play as much as I wanted and when it happened I played in positions where I couldn't express myself.

"Here, however, I have a free mind, I play as a midfielder as I like and it's like being a child again, when we played without worries.

"If the whole team has this feeling, great things can be achieved: even winning the championship. We feel like the best."
