AC Milan coach Pioli left 'disappointed' after Napoli draw

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli admitted disappointment after their 2-2 draw at Napoli.

An Olivier Giroud double had Milan 2-0 ahead before Napoli fought back.

“If we had lost this game too, then it would've been an extremely unlucky period. I think the big mistake was conceding their first goal, as it allowed Napoli mentally back into the game that until then we were in control of," Pioli told DAZN.

“It's true we scored two goals, but considering everything we created today, once again we only converted a very small percentage of the opportunities. We have to do better.

“It's a pity, the performance was good and leaving here with only a point is disappointing. I hope it is just a momentary matter of form, the important thing is to continue playing attacking football and creating all these chances. We must continue improving, as the level of our opponents in Serie A and the Champions League is very high."

On taking off Giroud ten minutes before the end, Pioli added: “I saw we needed fresh legs, that they had worked hard with three games in a week. Jovic almost provided the assist for the winner at the end. When players are tired, you have to inject fresh energy and improve the team.

“It is fair that they will come to me afterwards to ask for an explanation and I will give it to them."
