Sacked Hull manager Leonid Slutsky could be given an opportunity to get straight back into football with Chelsea.
The recent departure of Michael Emenalo as the club's technical director has freed up space for an appointment at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are undecided whether the role will stay the same or be split into two separate roles.
Regardless, Slutsky is said to have a role at the club open by his longtime friend and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Abramovich put Slutsky up in London in January, allowing him to stay at one of his Stamford Bridge hotels while he learned English and studied English football.
The 46-year-old became the first Russian to manage in England when he took over at the KCOM stadium in the summer.
However, his time at the club was short lived after winning just four matches in the Championship, which has left the club in 20th place on the table.
