Zaragoza players expected Milito to join Real Madrid

Real Madrid pulled out of negotiations yesterday after agreeing deals for Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and Manchester United defender Gaby Heinze.

Zaragoza were expecting to lose the Argentine with Madrid president Ramon Calderon willing to pay his £17 million buyout clause.

Indeed, some teammates were already resigned to losing the striker.

Pablo Aimar said: "Hopefully he remains. Whatever happens, I hope that it is the best thing for him."

Former Real Madrid midfielder Juanfran added: "Madrid always does the same when it is in a moment of crisis. I am sure that he isn't going to go, because he does not want to and because the club is not going to accept anything other than his buyout clause."
