Zanetti set to overtake Giuseppe Bergomi's Euro record
Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti has equalled Giuseppe Bergomi's record of 117 European appearances.
Bergomi, a World Cup winner with Italy in 1982, was one of Inter Milan and Italy's most enduring and successul defenders in an era which included Gaetano Scirea and Franco Baresi.
Zanetti, speaking after last night's loss at Werder Bremen, was proud of the achievement.
“Inter are my second home. They put their faith in me when I was unknown, I came here as young man and made my career here.
“I am very proud to have reached someone like Bergomi who has made Nerazzurri history. In fact, I've been here so long I feel practically Italian!”
