Zamparini: Palermo too big for Colantuono

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini believes the job was too big for Stefano Colantuono after sacking him this week.

Colantuono was replaced by Francesco Guidolin after Sunday's 5-0 thrashing by Juventus and Zamparini said: "I am sorry for him, a good coach, young, perhaps he did not have the experience to coach a team like the ambitious Palermo.

"If we are sixth in the standings and sack the coach, then are we aiming for the Champions League? No, absolutely. I kicked out Colantuono because Palermo has never played well.

"I think I'm making the right choice with Guidolin, who has worked well over the years here. Perhaps if I had had more patience I would have confirmed Francesco in the past season, rather than recalling him now after dismissing Colantuono."
