York hope to have their new manager in place in time for Saturday's home league game against Shrewsbury following the resignation of Nigel Worthington. The club's communications manager Sophie Hicks said: "We spoke to some people (on Monday) and talks will continue (on Tuesday).
"We're hoping to bring the new manager in before this weekend's game against Shrewsbury.
"We've been encouraged by the number of people who have applied for the job, the calibre is very good.
"Whoever it is has to be right for us. They need the relevant experience in this league, they have to be straightforward, hard-working and able to build a good relationship with us."
Russ Wilcox, Worthington's assistant Steve Torpey, Micky Adams and James Beattie are the bookies' frontrunners for the job, while Neil Redfearn has also been linked.
