Yahoo! linked as Sheffield Wednesday actively seek American investment

Sheffield Wednesday are targeting American investment. The Daily Mail says Wednesday have agreed to appoint the same specialist American advisers who have just overseen the sale of Sunderland to their new billionaire owner Ellis Short.

Chairman Lee Strafford has recently returned from a fact-finding trip to America, where he met potential investors associated with North American sports teams, and will employ the services of Inner Circle Sports to help push through a deal.

Internet millionaire Strafford took control at Hillsborough in January with a promise to restructure the club's £25million debt.

Yahoo! founder Jeff Mallett also met Strafford, but has no plans to invest personally in the club.

Instead, he offered to put Strafford in touch with others in the industry known to be interested in buying a controlling stake in Wednesday, at a fee of around £20m.
